The latest ride-hailing startup to launch in the South African market is Ridver, which has begun operations in Johannesburg with grand expansion plans.
Launched this month, Ridver aims to enhance access to ride-hailing services not just in Gauteng but across South Africa as a whole, and says it plans to expand into other African countries, Europe, South America, Asia and some Arab nations.
The platform offers four services: sedans driven by male or female drivers, the Ridver Women service through which female clients can specifically request female drivers, the Ridver Hatchback service, and Ridver Bakkie, where customers can request two-three tonne bakkies for moving heavy goods.
At present, only cash payment is available on Ridver, with drivers remitting 12 per cent of their daily income to Ridver. The platform is active in Midrand and environs, and will soon be available in Sandton, Rosebank, Braamfontein, Joburg CBD, Soweto, and Pretoria. It said being a new entrant with fewer active users and drivers meant it ensured customers a shorter waiting time.
Rider and driver apps are available on Android, while iOS users can also install rider app.
