Ghanaian tech talent startup Remoteli has raised US$315,000 in funding from Dutch professional footballer Jeremie Frimpong, aimed at supporting its work in revolutionising the African employment landscape.
Launched in 2020, Remoteli is a technology-driven platform that specialises in connecting talented professionals from Africa with innovative companies seeking to build diverse and highly skilled remote workforces.
Leveraging advanced algorithms and data-driven insights, Remoteli breaks down geographical barriers and fosters collaboration. In addition to its core matchmaking service, the startup is developing a suite of tools and resources designed to empower companies worldwide by connecting them with talented and ambitious African professionals. These include project management tools, seamless communication channels, time tracking, and invoicing solutions.
The development of these tools has now received a boost in the form of investment from footballer Frimpong, a full-back who plays for German club side Bayer Leverkusen and the Dutch national side. His US$315,000 investment in the startup is designed to speed its expansion and increase its impact.
“These collaborations have enabled us to tap into existing networks, promote digital literacy, and create job opportunities for a diverse talent pool,” said Remoteli CEO Samuel Brooksworth.
Frimpong is not the only well-known professional footballer making investments into African tech startups. Disrupt Africa reported in November last year on how the Ivory Coast-based StarNews Mobile, Africa’s leading mobile video network, had secured US$3 million in funding from investors that include three French professional footballers – Aurelien Tchouameni, Jules Kounde, and Mike Maignan of Excellence Sport Nation.
