South Africa’s Plentify, an innovative home energy management company, has partnered Conlog, Africa’s largest smart metering solutions provider, to accelerate the rollout of intelligent energy management solutions to more than 50 million households across the continent.
Plentify is a smart energy company that makes affordable, reliable and clean electricity a reality for everyone by fusing advanced hardware, artificial intelligence and user-centric design.
The startup’s suite of products connects to home appliances, helping them draw energy at optimal times. This ensures that appliances deliver desired services, generate major savings on energy bills through efficiency gains, and maximise energy use during clean energy periods while minimising it during constrained times.
Disrupt Africa reported in July last year that Plentify had closed an oversubscribed funding round from top African and North American venture investors to fuel its growth in South Africa and commence its international expansion.
It has now partnered Conlog, a smart metering leader with an established presence in over 58 countries and over 17 million smart meters deployed globally. The partnership positions Plentify’s flagship products, HotBot and SolarBot, to scale rapidly through Conlog’s trusted distribution and utility networks.
“At Plentify, we’re focused on making homes part of the energy solution, not just passive consumers. By combining our smart technology with Conlog’s trusted metering platform, we’re creating new value for utilities, municipalities, homeowners and property developers. Together, we’re offering a complete Home Energy Management System that goes beyond basic load control, enabling smarter, more flexible energy management across Africa’s energy ecosystem,” said Jon Kornik, CEO of Plentify.
Logan Moodley, CEO of Conlog, said his firm’s “strategic vision” with this project is fundamentally about evolving towards being more consumer-centric in the adoption of smart metering.
“We aim to understand and address the impact of energy access on consumers. The advent of digital technologies has created a strategic alignment between what Plentify offers from a technology perspective and our long-standing industry challenges. Traditionally, municipalities and distribution authorities focused on metering activities. However, with this synergy, we are introducing a more dynamic and data-driven energy ecosystem that includes the consumer as a principal player,” he said.
